Plant Rhubarb in early spring. Mix rich humus into soil. Well drained soil preferred. Rhubarb will flourish in a pH range of 6.0-6.8. Space rows 5 feet apart. Cover the crowns with soil so that buds are 1-2 inches below the soil. As soon as the first shoots emerge, mulch heavily with compost or leaves. Remove seed stalks as soon as they appear. Re-mulch in the fall and again the following spring.
